The global R&D centres have over 16,000 scientists and technicians in many countries. To further promote the globalization of R&D, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) China R&D Center was launched in June 2007. GSK R&D China will focus on research into neurodegeneration with the objective of discovering new medicines for such severe disorders as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. GSK R&D China will grow to a global R&D center with more than 1,000 scientists and technicians. Research in this center will be science-driven, with development of novel therapeutics through innovation and latest technologies in biology and chemistry. The center will eventually direct the global discovery and development activities within its therapeutic area, from drug-target identification to late-stage clinical studies, while collaborating with research institutions in China and other countries. 应聘职位: Associate Scientist (Medicinal Chemistry)

We are currently seeking highly self-motivated and talented synthetic organic chemists to join our medicinal chemistry group. Inpiduals will work closely with other members of our medicinal chemistry, biology and DMPK departments to identify novel small molecules for the treatment of various CNS disorders.

Responsibilities:
- To synthesize target compounds in a timely fashion;
- To be able to carry out research activities independently;
- To plan and implement efficient synthetic routes to compounds of interest;
- To provide clear and concise summaries of own work at departmental meetings;
- To develop an ability to interpret primary assay data and SAR;
- To establish and maintain detailed knowledge of literature relevant to current research;
- To participate in scale-up efforts for compounds of interest.

Requirements:
- A MS degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry;
- Experienced in medicinal chemistry in academic institution or the pharmaceutical industry is a plus;
- Ability to work independently;
- Excellent organizational, communication (oral & written) and problem-solving abilities;
- Hands-on experience in modern characterization techniques (LC/MS, NMR, etc);
- Be excellent team player and work effectively to achieve department established goals and objectives.

- Be recognized as a key resource by other medicinal chemists due to expertise in a specific therapeutic area
and/or specialty
- Influence and successfully drive new science/technology across the chemistry department
- Demonstrate scientific leadership in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and develop ability
- Have a demonstrated leadership in driving team usage in technical areas such as new synthetic/purification technology
and computational drug design tools
- Think tactically or strategically to provide creative/novel ideas, suggesting/establishing well-reasoned steps for
realizing a new concept or taking the organization forward
- Influence program directions by interpreting results outside of primary discipline
- Employ intuition and insight to view accepted practices in different ways and generate improvements
