The CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences (CEMPS) is a research unit of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The CEMPS is an international world’s leading center for plant research. It fosters innovative, vibrant, and interactive research groups synergized by a battery of state-of-the-art core facilities, including genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, microscopy and transformation facilities.
The Molecular Plant-Bacteria interactions group, led by Dr. Alberto Macho, studies the molecular and biochemical dynamics of plant-microbe interactions, focusing on the interaction between plants and soil-borne bacterial pathogens (e.g. Ralstonia solanacearum) and the activity of type III-secreted effector proteins inside the plant cells, with the goal of gaining a better understanding of both bacterial virulence strategies and plant signaling pathways. We use an integrated multidisciplinary approach combining biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, on both pathogen and host plants.
To accomplish our goals, we are looking for highly motivated individuals with a strong research background in plant biochemistry, molecular biology and/or genetics, and a PhD degree in a related discipline. Previous experience on plant signaling or plant-pathogen interactions is desirable, and laboratory experience with basic protein biochemistry and molecular biology techniques is required. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as good English speaking, reading and writing skills. The successful candidate will join a highly dynamic, interdisciplinary and international lab.
